The Melancholy;
Serious and purposeful, conscientious, easily offended,
too introspective, too meticulous, appreciative of beauty,
finds creative solutions

Life for a melancholy can be likened to traveling through an endless myriad of intense thought; while encountering tumultuous emotion and conflict along the way. He is an introvert by nature, but don't be fooled. He has such depth of insight and creative thought patterns hidden inside, that find their outlet in every facet of his life. His mind is an abyss, where calculated ideas find their only means of escape through the vast expressions he uses in whatever task is at hand. Sound intense? Well that's because it is!
Melancholies live in a realm where everything is done in the extreme. This can be flustering and exasperating for those around him because it's almost impossible to translate and interpret his wordless language.
I once heard a man say, "The scariest place I never want to be is inside a woman's head!"
(His wife is a melancholy)
People with this personality type are known for being extremely loyal and faithful to those he lets in his inner circle. His feelings run deep and tender, he easily empathizes with others, and has the ability to make strong commitments. The loss or rejection from a once trustworthy relationship is devastating to him.
If you turn over any task to a melancholy though, it will be completed as close to perfect as possible. Be ware though, he constantly analyzes whether or nor he is being productive. Whenever anything is done less than perfect, he can mull over the disappointment in himself for days and days. He often struggles with low self esteem because of his need to achieve high standards. The melancholy is by far the most dependable of the temperaments due to his perfectionist tendencies.
I heard a couple melancholies describe themselves and this is what they said;
A co-worker said,
"I try so hard to avoid mistakes, it bothers me for days when I do."
"I try so hard to avoid mistakes, it bothers me for days when I do."
A close friend said,
"I can't help analyzing everything. I think I question everything way too much."

A church friend said,
"People don't understand, I just need to be alone sometimes."
"People don't understand, I just need to be alone sometimes."
Another one said,
"I'm just trying to do my job the right way!"
"I'm just trying to do my job the right way!"
Melancholies will stay with you till the end. Their love for connecting to people and beauty around them is a quality that stands out in this ever-complex person. Their passions are rooted deep, often to their dismay because most of the human race cannot enter in and experience the richness of what their life is like. Yes, they have their despairing moments, but what emerges out of them is a strong relentless person who is tough and persistent to the core. | And just for the record, a famous melancholy in the cartoon world is Eeyore, Whinnie-the-Pooh's slow talking, self depreciating friend! |
